Summertime Blues Float Downstream: Mass Enjoyment on The Big Piney River

There is a cure for summertime blues. Just come down by the riverside. The Big Piney River keeps on rolling by, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.

That is what is so wonderful about the river. It is always changing, sometimes high, sometimes low, never the same. And all the stories as time goes grow bigger as time goes by.

If the Piney is not cold enough for you when the real feel outside is 110, there is always The Roubidoux Spring. The Roy Laughlin Park is home to the clearest coldest swimming hole in Waynesville. You'll find the locals all know how to cool off there on a brutally hot summer day down here in the Ozarks.

Although the bass and catfish are biting on the Big Piney, the trout like the Roubidoux Creek. There is an absolutely delightful couple of miles to and fro walking path alongside the creek, beginning with a history lesson about The Trail of Tears. Turn around at the Spring where the water just bubbles out of the underground cave and trout swim around like they own the place.

Our family and friends floated the Piney River for a 4- 5 hour trip together with our favorite outfitter, Devil's Elbow River Safari. It was decidedly the best float for our group 20+ adults and children ever! Angie and her crew provided an outstanding service for all of us, again, as always.

We arrived back to Cedar Mere Riverside to an absolutely delicious fried chicken dinner from The Hen House in St. Robert. They made it so easy for us. We called the day before and they loaded it into our car hot and ready at the scheduled pick time.

So leave the blues behind. Head out to The Big Piney River with family and friends to make YOUR great summer vacation a time to remember. There will be miles of smiles for all, guaranteed!
